How to use Naver Map in Korea
A short guide to changing the language, finding places, planning routes, and moving from Google research to local navigation.
QUICK ANSWER
Install the app before arrival, switch it to English, and save the places you find while planning. NAVER Map supports Korean, English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. If an English place name does not appear, copy the Korean name from the venue’s official page and search again.
01 · LANGUAGE
Set up the app before leaving the airport
On Android, open MY, enter settings, and choose Language. On iPhone, use MY or the iOS language settings for NAVER Map. The officially supported choices are Korean, English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
- Android: MY → Settings → Language
- iPhone: MY → Settings → Language, or Settings → NAVER Map
- Official languages: Korean, English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese
02 · SEARCH
Keep the Korean name as your backup
Try the international name first. If the correct result does not appear, copy the Korean name or address from the official venue page, booking, or business listing. Check the photo, neighborhood, and address before starting directions.
03 · DIRECTIONS
Compare subway, bus, and walking routes
Enter your start and destination, verify the transport mode, and check the correct station exit. NAVER Map combines local place, transit, and review information; its BE LOCAL experience also curates recommendations for users with non-Korean language settings.
04 · BOOKINGS
Some services now accept foreign passports
Since June 2026, foreign visitors have been able to verify identity by passport for selected NAVER booking, ordering, and payment services. Availability varies by service and venue, so confirm each option inside the app before relying on it.
